ESG

Integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into every part of our business makes good business sense.

Pine Tree is committed to being an industry leader in environmental sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility. That’s why we’re turning to technology and innovation to integrate sustainability into our business model and create meaningful change that benefits our stakeholders and the communities we serve.

Advancing responsible resource efficiency and resilience

Environmental Responsibility

Pine Tree is committed to being a responsible and effective environmental steward. In addition to working with sustainability partners like EnergyStar, Measurabl and GRESB to track – and ultimately improve – our environmental footprint, since 2016 we’ve been proactively retrofitting our shopping centers to utilize LED lighting, cutting energy costs nearly in half in some cases while creating an impact equivalent to removing 1,085 cars from the road or saving 977 acres of trees from deforestation. Since 2015, Pine Tree has installed over 2.6 million square feet of energy-efficient white roofing, absorbing only 12% of the sun’s energy compared to nearly 83% with a traditional black roof. These “cool” roofs have reduced air conditioning energy consumption by up to 15% and are expected to offset nearly 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

Internally, Pine Tree is reducing its own carbon footprint through its on-site recycling program, avoiding single-use paper products, and advancing its paperless goals.

Operating with people, tenants and communities in mind

Social Inclusivity

Pine Tree is committed to creating an equitable and inclusive environment for our employees and stakeholders. We are developing a vendor network that is more inclusive of businesses owned by minorities, women, veterans, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Our Vendor Diversity Program promotes economic growth and equity in the communities we serve – across our entire national portfolio – by actively partnering with diverse local vendors to help service our assets. Additionally, it’s critical that we are affecting positive change in the communities we serve. We engage with our local municipalities and communities through on-site place-making events and marketing programs at our shopping centers and digitally through shopping center websites and social media accounts.

We’re also dedicated to advancing industry diversity and inclusivity through our long-standing partnerships with programs from The Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation, Youth Guidance, and Embarc. Internally, we are investing in the growth and well-being of our team members by offering educational and volunteering opportunities as well as access to Health & Wellness initiatives.

Ensuring performance and accountability through objectivity

Transparent & Effective Governance

At Pine Tree, we’re raising the bar on transparency, business ethics, and quality. In addition to being guided by the Pine Tree Code – something our team lives by in everything we do – the company is governed by an independent Board of Directors, which we believe is an essential element to earn the trust of our clients, teammates, partners, communities, and other stakeholders.
